Your First Visit

At your first appointment, we:

  • Review your health history
  • Conduct a physical examination
  • Discuss treatment options to suit your needs

The radiation oncologist’s recommendations will be based on the most effective treatment for your specific type of cancer or your physician’s referral, the stage of cancer, the location of the tumor, and your overall health and lifestyle.

You are welcome to bring a friend or family member to support you during this or other visits to our center.

It may be necessary to schedule other diagnostic tests to determine the best treatment plan for you. Your radiation oncologist will work with the other physicians involved in your care to coordinate your overall healthcare needs.

Next Steps

Advanced Computed Tomography (CT) Simulation

Treatment planning begins at your next appointment with a CT simulation. Your radiation oncologist works with a radiation therapist and dosimetrist to obtain a three-dimensional image of the treatment area using this technology.

The CT simulation precisely identifies and defines the treatment target and surrounding normal tissue. It allows us to deliver an effective dose of radiation to the tumor while protecting healthy tissue.

Treatment Planning

Next, your radiation oncologist works with a physicist and dosimetrists who use a special computer to develop unique and personalized treatmenat plan. This treatment plan is developed to deliver the maximum dose to the cancer target while sparing healthy tissue. After the plan is approved by the radiation oncologist, your treatment can begin.
