Chronic wounds are manageable. They affect 6.7 million people in the U.S. and the incidence is rising. Some of the contributing factors include aging population and increasing rates of conditions such as diabetes, obesity as well as the late effects of radiation therapy. Wound care is effective in treating diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections, arterial ulcers, late effects of radiation and compromised skin grafts and flaps. These types of treatments typically do not require physician referrals.
