Doctors Community Hospital Rolls Out Mobile Clinic and Honors Donor

Lanham, Maryland − Doctors Community Hospital is rolling out a new preventative health resource, thanks to the generosity of donor Albert W. Turner of Carrollton Enterprises and his family. Doctors Community Hospital will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony and donor appreciation event on June 15, 2017 from 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. This event will celebrate the new Wellness on Wheels (W.O.W.) mobile health clinic that was made possible by a $100,000 donation from Albert W. Turner and his family. At the ceremony, Doctors Community Hospital will also perform a naming ceremony for the Albert W. Turner Family Surgical Services Pavilion for which the Turner family contributed $375,000.

Doctors Community Hospital’s original mobile clinic was operated in partnership with the Prince George’s County Health Department. The Turner family’s generous donation has now allowed the hospital to acquire its own mobile clinic, which will help more people in the community access free and life-saving preventative health services. Staffed by Doctors Community Hospital clinicians, W.O.W. will deliver medical care in the community’s most underserved neighborhoods. Such efforts help the hospital reach county residents who may otherwise experience barriers to accessing health care while improving health outcomes. The new roving clinic will provide convenient screenings (diabetes, cholesterol and blood pressure) as well as medication review services.

At the June 15 ribbon-cutting event, Doctors Community Hospital will also perform a naming ceremony for the Albert W. Turner Family Surgical Services Pavilion. This naming is in honor of Mr. Turner’s long-time support of Doctors Community Hospital. In 2013, Mr. Turner was awarded with the hospital’s “Passion for Caring” award due to his extraordinary contributions to the community.

A native resident of Hyattsville, Maryland, Mr. Turner is widely recognized as a leader in local community development through his work with Carrolton Enterprises. Additionally, he served as the first mayor of the City of New Carrollton as well as a member of the board of directors for Citizens Bank of Maryland (now SunTrust Bank), Prince George’s County Tourism Council, Suburban Maryland Home Builders Association, Prince George’s County United Way and Southern Maryland Heart Association.

“We are so grateful to Mr. Albert W. Turner and his family for their tireless commitment to serving our community,” says Robyn Webb-Williams, vice president of Doctors Community Hospital Foundation. “Our new Wellness on Wheels mobile health clinic, made possible by the generosity of the Turner family, will allow us to further our goal of providing the right care, at the right time and in the right place to all members of our community.”  In addition to supporting the hospital’s mobile clinic and surgical services programs, the Turner family has donated $25,000 to the hospital’s Center for Comprehensive Breast Care. Webb-Williams continues, “We are proud to have the Albert W. Turner Family Surgical Services Pavilion bear the name of those who have done so much for Prince George’s County and the regional residents.”
