Doctors Community Hospital Rated as High Performing by U.S. News & World Report

Lanham, MD  – Doctors Community Hospital has again been rated as a high performing hospital by U.S. News & World Report.  In its 2019/2020 report, the hospital was recognized for heart failure and colon cancer surgery.

Yearly, U.S. News gathers nationwide hospital data to compare outcomes. For many relating categories, it measures indicators such as patient volumes, survival rates, patient discharges home, etc.  Additionally, it examines other condition-specific factors such as prevention of prolonged hospitalization in the colon cancer surgery category and noninvasive breathing aids in the heart failure category.

The 2019 Community Health Assessment by the Prince George’s County Health Department indicated that heart disease was the leading cause of death in the county in 2017.  Moreover, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) highlighted the importance of colorectal cancer screenings in preventing this disease.

According to Dr. Sunil Madan, chief medical and population health officer at Doctors Community Hospital, “There are multiple chronic diseases that impact the health of area residents. Doctors Community Hospital developed specific programs to help deliver the education, treatment and support that people need to address those conditions.”

In addition to its Digestive Diseases Center, the hospital partners with the county’s health department to provide free colorectal cancer screenings to qualified residents.  Additionally, the hospital has a cardiac rehab program that develops personalized treatment plans to help patients strengthen their physical mobility and body functions after a cardiac-related illness.

“I have the great fortune to work with an amazing team.  These professionals approach each day with a focus on providing compassionate and high-quality care that makes meaningful differences in the lives of people throughout our community,” stated Paul Grenaldo, president, Doctors Community Health System.  “We are honored to be recognized as a high-performing hospital for colon cancer surgery and heart failure. They truly highlight the hard work of our employees and their commitment to service excellence.”
