Emergency Center
The Emergency Center at Doctors Community Hospital is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to provide state-of-the-art emergency care to our community. Annually, the Emergency Center provides care to more than 55,000 residents.
Triage
When you arrive at the Emergency Center, you will be seen by the triage nurse, who will determine the severity of your illness or injury.
Your heart and breathing rates, blood pressure and temperature will be measured. The nurse will then ask a few questions about your current concerns and your medical history. You will then be sent to either Acute Care or Registration.
Acute Care
If you go to Acute Care, the triage nurse will escort you and place you on a stretcher. You will be asked to change into a patient gown and will be evaluated by the nurse and doctor. A clerk will come back to the treatment area to register you.
Registration
If you will be seen in another area of the Emergency Center, you will be called to the registration desk. During registration, the clerk will ask you, or a family member, for information such as your name, address, telephone number, next of kin, and insurance information.
Urgent Care
Patients whose conditions are urgent, but not life threatening, will go to our eight-bed Urgent Care area. Our Urgent Care has its own dedicated physicians and is open from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. daily. Typically, patients treated in Urgent Care will be treated and on their way home within one hour.
Treatment Area
After registering, you will be called to the treatment area by a nurse as soon as a room becomes available. The Emergency Center physician, or a physician assistant, will see you in order of arrival. However, please understand that patients with life-threatening emergencies take priority and may be seen before others.
The physician may order tests.
